Compiz - Review of Ubuntu Karmic Koala

Compiz brings desktop compositing to Ubuntu windows, enabling rich graphical effects as well as practical benefits. Although Compiz has been in Ubuntu for some time, current versions are richer and more stable than early efforts. In order to get the full benefit, it is worth adding the Compiz Settings Manager to Ubuntu, giving access to the full range of settings, provided that your hardware and graphics driver support it. Accessibility options include a magnifier, a mouse visibility enhancer, and control over colours and opacity.

Window preview shows a pop-up preview for each application in the taskbar, similar to that in Windows. Scale Desktop, obtained by pressing Shift-Alt-UpArrow, shows all open applications scaled to fit the screen, just like on the Mac.

Ubuntu 9.10, also known as Karmic Koala, is taking on Microsoft's Windows 7. The Koala has a better software installer, faster boot times and much more. Here's our thorough review.
