A 50 year history of networks: 1969 - Arpanet lays the first building block

In today’s hyper connected society, it is hard to imagine what the world of technology must have  been like in 1969. Neil Armstrong had just made one giant leap for mankind, and now researchers from the US Defence Advanced Research Project Agency, were looking at how to maintain a command and control centre in the event of a USSR nuclear attack. The team developed a packet switching network which enabled two computers at different sites to communicate. This became Arpanet, the forerunner to the modern internet.
