The technology is currently being used in Uganda, helping to find suitable places for refugees fleeing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo. “The software is definitely starting to make a difference,” said Lizzie Babister, emergency shelter and reconstruction shelter specialist. “We need to set up sites for refugees really fast with little access to resources. Google Earth is one of the things that helps us determine whether a site is suitable. In developing countries, the chances of a map having all the information you need on and being up to date are not very high.”
