Fingerprint identification device - Diamonds Are Forever (1971) Sean Connery
This projector-based system was not one of 007’s tools but was used by diamond smuggler Tiffany Case (Jill St. John). Compared to modern fingerprint identification systems, Tiffany’s device was extremely crude and immovable. To discover Bond’s identity, she dusts a glass he has used, runs it through the device and compares it with a known example of his real fingerprint. Fingerprint identification is a much simpler operation these days with the proliferation computer-based fingerprint analysers that can skim through thousands of possible matches in seconds.

There is a definite bond between secret agents and gadgets. From the Geiger counter in Dr No, James Bond has been bedecked with hardware that has ranged from the plausible to the fantastical. The current Bond (Daniel Craig, starring in The Quantum of Solace) is a relative technophobe, which is a pity because the Bond devices have always stirred the imagination.
