Kindle on the Slate

Ballmer showed the HP Slate running Amazon's Kindle electronic book reader software for the PC. "As you see, I can flip through the book using the touch experience. I can experience the book in full colour. I can, of course, go and buy and download more content from Amazon right from within this application," he said.

The original Tablet PC devices were based on  laptops without the keyboard – giving users all the worst elements of portable PC technology, plus no touch typing. Now there is a new version called the Slate, unveiled at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
