RFID shopping lists

Once the customer has called up the shopping list on the touchscreen, the RFID reader can register the tags on each product as it is placed into the basket. Items are ticked off the list as the shopper moves around. The full RFID tags might not be feasible in low-margin markets like food, because the cost of the tags might not be justified. But the technology has real potential in areas such as fashion, SAP says.

SAP’s Future Retail Centre, near Zurich, Switzerland, houses a range of new technologies that could change the way we shop in years to come. Many of the technologies are already being trialled by retailers and the company uses its research labs in Switzerland to showcase and test its ideas.
