Muhammad Ali shows off the fist of a boxing world heavyweight champion in this photograph taken by Thomas Hoepker in Chicago in 1966. The Magnum Archive Collection will be preserved, catalogued and made available to the public at the Harry Ransom Center, University of Texas, where Michael Dell was once a student, but the photographers will retain copyright and the licensing rights.

 

Michael Dell, chief of computer firm Dell, has acquired the print archive of Magnum Photos, widely considered to be the world's most valuable photographic collection.

The collection documents world events, and includes photographs of Marilyn Monroe, Martin Luther King jnr, Che Guevara, James Dean and Jacqueline Kennedy.
