The beginning: Jerry Yang and David Filo

Jerry Yang and David Filo were electrical engineering graduates from Stanford University. In April 1994, Jerry renamed his “Guide to the World Wide Web” “Yahoo!” for which the official expansion is "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle". The word’s general definition comes from Gulliver’s Travels which means “rude, unsophisticated, uncouth.” The original URL was akebono.stanford.edu/yahoo.
