IT Support Engineer - Linux Systems Support (Telecoms)
Brighton, East Sussex
£35,000 Plus Emergency and On-Call Payments, Company Bonus
Our client is an independent telecoms software developer and intelligent networks consultancy. They specialise in developing and integrating next-generation, carrier-grade applications and services for the communications marketplace. An opportunity has now arisen for an IT Support Engineer to join their team.
For this role our client is seeking someone with proven IT systems support or systems administration experience gained within a Linux environment, to join their team.
This is an exciting time to join the company. Our client has recently won a major contract with a world leading teleconferencing organisation to provide global support services to for its flagship audio conferencing product.
Working as part of a team, as an IT Support Engineer you will remotely provide full systems support of the audio conferencing product. This will involve incident management and fault diagnosis, systems monitoring, hardware and software management, stress/load testing and alarm/trap management.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Incident management - ensuring all validated incidents are resolved within SLA criteria
- Configuration management - ensuring strict version control is maintained across all systems/platforms
- Release management - ensuring all software and firmware updates and releases are packaged, tested and deployed
- Change management and capacity management
- Server management (building, configuration and maintenance)
The successful candidate will be required to participate in an on-call rota for out of hours emergency support. At some point shift work will also be required to provide extended hours coverage. Some UK and overseas travel will be required.
To be considered for this position you must have:
- IT systems support/systems administration experience within a Linux environment
- Excellent knowledge of Linux/Red Hat
- Experience with TCP/IP, Scripting (Perl, Bash) and Subversion
- Experience using common network protocols (DHCP, PXE, TFTP, HTTP)
As an IT Support Engineer you should also have strong document writing skills, an eye for detail and the ability to work well under pressure. You will also need to demonstrate strong analytical skills and a desire to learn new technical skills and technologies.
The ideal candidate will hold both strong Linux support skills and experience of telecoms/VoIP. A degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or a related discipline would also prove beneficial.
Full product training will be provided and it is recognised that not every IT Support Engineer will have the full required skill-set of both Linux systems administration and telecoms (VOIP), in which case suitable training will be given.
