HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is modernising the UK tax system, with the aim of making tax easier for businesses and individuals. It’s a big job and the department recognises it can’t do it alone – there’s an increasingly big role to play for tax software developers in this journey. HMRC sees a future where apps and tools integrate routine business tasks with transacting with the department, making it so simple for businesses and individuals to meet their tax obligations that these tasks are almost unnoticed. In his UKtech50 session, HMRC chief digital & information officer Mark Dearnley talked about a pioneering API strategy introduced as a cornerstone of that plan.
