Influential women in IT: Catherine Doran, Royal Mail

Catherine Doran, CIO, Royal Mail

The trouble with women—an exploration

Computer Weekly recently hosted an event to celebrate the most influential women in UK IT. We invited some of the top female IT role models in the UK to discuss the role of women in developing the UK's high-tech economy. This video is one of a series of the speakers talking to the audience of female IT leaders.

How to attract and retain women in IT is a key point of the debate around the gender divide in the profession. In this speech, Catherine Doran draws on her own recent history as a member of the e-Skills CIO board and CIO at Royal Mail Group, which is currently recruiting 100 people into IT.

Catherine Doran joined Royal Mail in September 2011 as Chief Information Officer. She is responsible for devising and delivering the IT strategy to transform the technology estate to underpin the business transformation agenda. She joined Royal Mail from Network Rail where she led the company-wide transformation programme, aimed at achieving multibillion-pound savings through technology and process changes.
