For the first few years of her career, developer Gem Barrett – a Ford-Mozilla Open Web Fellow at Open Technology Institute - worked alone as a remote freelance developer, in blissful ignorance of many of the daily occurrences of sexism her counterparts faced. Going into permanent, full-time employment in 2013 radically changed her view of the tech industry. She’ll be discussing her experiences of burnout, workplace misogyny and ways in which we can all contribute to keeping women in the tech industry.

She's very real and unaffected. I enjoyed listening to her talk, although it made me very sad that she's had to go through those experiences. Although IT in my organization is very male dominated, I am so fortunate to be able to say that I have never experienced any sexism remotely as awful as she has. She's a very strong person.
