Aldi's £600 320GB multimedia notebook goes on sale at
stores across the UK on Thursday 8 May. Find out whether you should
get in line to bag one in John-Paul Kamath's video
review.
Supermarkets aren't the usual place you'd go to pick up a PC,
but if you're in the market for a multimedia laptop, Aldi is hoping
you'll head to its UK stores this Thursday to grab a
Medion
Akoya MD 96640 multimedia notebook alongside your groceries.
The notebook goes on sale on 8 May as one of the retail chain's
'Thursday Special Offers', priced at £599.99.
The MD 96640 is billed as a multimedia notebook, and its
specification also suggests it's intended for use as an
entertainment laptop, rather than a business machine: it has a TV
tuner, widescreen display, and HDMI and surround sound output, and
Windows Media Center - but other than Microsoft Works and a
student/home user trial version of Office, there's no productivity
software included. However, the large 320GB hard drive, Intel Core
2 Duo processor, integrated Bluetooth v2.0, wireless connection,
and fingerprint security device may make it suitable for some SMEs
and home-workers looking for a desktop alternative for small
spaces.
Students who need something that can be taken to and from
university either end of term, and those making only the occasional
business trip, should also find the machine portable enough for
these purposes, although if you're after a truly portable notebook
that will allow you to work on the move, wherever you are, then
this particular offer is unlikely to provide the best model for
you, as John-Paul Kamath explains in this video review.
