Women in IT: Lesley Cowley, Nominet

Recent Nominet research showed that there remain common misapprehensions which put off young people, particularly girls, from pursuing a career in IT. Lesley will talk about the need to re-brand UK IT and the practical ways in which businesses, organisations and individuals can make a difference.

Under Lesley’s leadership, Nominet has become a trusted guardian of a vital part of the UK internet economy, providing services that are relied upon by millions of businesses and consumers. Respected within the international internet community, Lesley is chair of ICANN’s Country Code Names Supporting Organisation. In 2011, Lesley was awarded an OBE for services to the internet and e-commerce as well as special commendation in the IOD’s Director of the Year Awards, and she won the IOD Chairman’s Award for London and South East.
