Midverk IT manager Jon Helgason speaks to Computer Weekly's Cliff Saran about recovering from a party that brought down the company's datacentre.
As Midverk’s IT team left the office one Friday evening, the 70 virtual machines that run 90% of applications in its IT infrastructure were fully operational. There was a party going on in another part of the building.
At 5am the following morning, the team received a call informing them that the electricity had failed in the datacentre; the uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) were drained and the storage area network (SAN) was corrupted.
The company installed a trial version of Veeam Backup & Replication to recover its VMware vSphere environment, allowing it to rebuild the SAN.
