Big data impact on storage infrastructure
Date: Jan 21, 2013
In this video interview, Ovum senior analyst Tim Stammers discusses what to consider when looking at storage infrastructure to handle the large datasets and the real-time access requirements of big data.
Tim Stammers warns: "There is no clear consensus in the industry in what to sell customers." Some suppliers are offering object storage, clustered, scalable NAS or block-level SANs. "All have their own advantages but it all depends on your environment," Stammers adds.
IT managers will also see suppliers selling big-data appliances with integrated storage, which improve performance, but may cause businesses issues when the data needs to be shared.
