Women in IT: Jo Swinson, Government Minister for Women & Equalities

The information economy is critical to the UK’s success on the global stage, yet women are significantly under-represented in the technology professions. It is important that women have the confidence and opportunity to be successful at every level, and especially in a profession that is so critical to the future of the UK economy.

In September 2012, Jo Swinson became Minister for Employment Relations and Consumer Affairs in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and Women and Equalities Minister in the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. She was elected as the Liberal Democrat MP for East Dunbartonshire in 2005.

Wonderful to see this addressed, though the solution isn't simply "hire more women." As long as little girls get Barbie Dolls and little boys get tool kits we'll have a serious imbalance. Perhaps we need less time and money for football teams and more for math classes.
