US telecoms equipment maker Lucent Technologies said today it had been tapped for contracts in Europe with a potential value of more than $220m.

The company said the contracts, announced at the CeBIT electronics fair in Hanover, Germany, include a partnership with Deutsche Telekom for a new fast data transmission network using "ethernet-over-optical" technology.

Lucent said in a statement it has also entered into a deal with 10 new business partners to provide its products and services portfolio to enterprises and smaller service providers on the continent.

But Lucent provided no other financial details or the time span of the new contracts. Its shares closed at $1.56 on Monday (10 March)on the New York Stock Exchange.
