IBM is being sued for the cost of a £700,000 server that
was written off after being dropped by a forklift truck. US
contractor TR Systems is suing IBM, claiming that poor packaging
caused the severe damage to the server, which occurred in transit
to a warehouse.
The US District Court in Alexandria will decide who is to blame
- the forklift driver or IBM. Either way, they don't make 'em like
they used to. IBM used to install AS/400 servers in Chieftain tanks
and claimed the servers were bomb proof - presumably only when the
tanks were packed in bubble wrap.
