Uptime Institute offers new Accredited Tier Specialist course
The Uptime Institute has unveiled an Accredited Tier Specialist (ATS) course. The course follows the Institute's Accredited Tier Designer (ATD) course, which accredited 97 elite design engineers from 15 countries during its first year. The three-day intensive course and final examination is designed to help data centre managers improve their operations by using Uptime Institute Standards.

Ofcom outsources with Logica UK
Education body Ofcom has signed an ICT outsourcing contract with Logica UK in a bid to save £7.5 million over five years. The contract is for four years, with an optional extra year, and includes support of licensing and support for 300,000 contacts a year from UK citizens, customers and stakeholders.

Siemon networking included in IBM EMDC programme
Siemon has announced that its network cabling solutions can now be included as part of IBM's Modular Data Centre (MDC) programme. Siemon systems that currently compliment IBM's programme include the Z-MAXcategory 6A and TERA category 7A twisted pair copper, plus 10, 40 and 100-GB-ready fibre optic cabling, the MapITG2 Intelligent Infrastructure Management System and VersaPOD data centre cabinets.

Cloud's flexibility will pull economy through downturn, survey says
A survey by analyst Vanson Bourne, and commissioned by hosting provider Savvis, has revealed that 68% of IT professionals and decision makers feel that the flexibility of cloud computing will help businesses recover from the economic downturn. Surveying more than 600 industry workers across the United States, United Kingdom and Singapore, the results found that 54% of businesses worry about how they will achieve more with lower budgets.

RTW Hosting picks RES Software for hosted desktop support
Workspace management vendor RES Software has been chosen by RTW Hosting to support the delivery of its hosted desktop services. RES Software will also be aiding the service provider in transitioning customers to RTW Hosting's environment, while ensuring the company's previous on-premise desktop environment is applied to its integrated hosted desktop in an automated fashion.
