Eric Woods gives a preview of the new features in Oracle 9i, and explains how Oracle may at last be meeting its potential in two critical areas

Version 2 of the Oracle 9i Database and Application Server is due to be released in May 2002. Two significant enhancements stand out: an aggressive focus on the application server market and a renewed emphasis on business intelligence. Oracle is using the new release to launch an attack on both these markets and to lay down a series of challenges to competitors in terms of functionality and price.
