Tim Gregory, former head of IT at Lloyd's of London insurance market, has joined BACS, the UK clearing-house for financial transactions, writes Hooman Bassirian.

Gregory, who is also the chairman of the blue-chip user group the Technical Infrastructure Forum, took over the new role of IT director at BACS a fortnight ago.

The clearing-house had previously incorporated responsibility for IT into the post of the business development director.

The creation of a dedicated senior IT role shows the importance the post has been given by BACS. Chris dawson, a former head of IT at the NatWest Group subsidiary, Lombard, takes over from Gregory as the interim general manager, IT services.

Gregory said, "One of my key roles will be to work with banks to see how they can exploit e-commerce."
