The past 12 months has seen the environment in end-user IT change dramatically. As the tidal wave of enthusiasm that created the "e-commerce revolution" receded, IT departments have been left to survey the aftermath.

For many, the situation is bleak. This has had a profound effect on the priorities of chief information officers. Technology suppliers must recognise the equally profound effect it has had on the way they need to present, market and sell their products.
