CRM can be as easy as Google

Using customer relationship management systems can be as intuitive as using the Google search engine, Tom Siebel, chairman of Siebel Systems told delegates at Comdex.

Siebel will next month launch a marketing campaign for its new hosted CRM service, which is being offered in partnership with IBM. The initiative will target companies that have been put off rolling out CRM software by the high implementation and running costs.

When the service was announced last month, Gartner analyst Michael Maoz said it might also be attractive to organisations that are already running Siebel CRM. "Siebel's large customers should re-examine the feasibility of extending Siebel to parts of the organisation previously left out for budgetary reasons," he said.

Rival company now has 8,000 customers and 110,000 subscribers globally for its hosted CRM offering.

Siebel was an early entrant into the hosted CRM market, launching in 1999 to offer browser based tolls. But two years later it was scrapped.
