Nortel is the first telecoms hardware firm to be accredited for the UK government's Gateway Alliance Programme, which aims to improve public sector services through shared online facilities.
The Programme is part of the Cabinet Office's e-Delivery Team's (EDT) ongoing commitment to work in partnership with key IT suppliers in delivering the Government Gateway and related services across the public sector.
Government organisations will be offered Nortel's technologies covering unified communications, wireless and fixed line networks.
"We are delighted to have Nortel on board," said Damien Kennedy, head of partnering at EDT. "As the programme moves into its next phase, we will be focused on the delivery of innovation and the reduction of life time costs of ICT estates, and so having industry leaders such as Nortel being a part of the programme is essential to our success."
