PKWARE has made available for free its SecureZIP PC data encryption software.

For a limited time, individual users can visit SecureZIP and receive a free download of the upgraded release of the software, allowing them to protect information stored on hard-drives, laptops, portable devices and sent through email against theft and unauthorised access.

Like other versions of the software, Version 11 is built on the .ZIP standard, originally developed and patented by PKWARE. It has an easy-to-use interface, providing users with the familiarity of a ZIP solution to help ease the process of integrating security into everyday computing tasks.

By integrating into email applications, such as Microsoft Outlook, SecureZIP users can use a secure email system that ensures that both the email message body and attachments are encrypted and digitally signed.

“With a porous network perimeter and the line between professional and personal use of corporate devices increasingly blurred, it is becoming increasingly important for all end-users to find simple yet effective security,” said Charles Kolodgy, an analyst at IDC.

“Any tool that uses a well established process, such as zipping, that users have high comfort with and confidence in, to secure sensitive information, is a great step in the right direction,” he said.
