Consortium to promote near-field mobile apps
A Europe-wide consortium of companies, universities and user groups has been created to develop an open architecture for the development and use of near-field communications-enabled applications in mobile handsets.
Verisign restructures to meet digital demand
VeriSign has restructured its business to meet growing demand for digital infrastructure services. The security supplier has combined three business units: VeriSign Security Services, VeriSign Information Services and VeriSign Communications Services.
IEEE works on federated architecture standard
The IEEE has begun work on the first standard for the verification of high-level architecture federations. The standards body has also approved a revision of IEEE 16085, which describes a process for managing risk on systems.

Brocade buys San rival McData for £500m
Brocade has completed the acquisition of McData for £500m. Brocade said it plans to boost the interoperability of the suppliers' networked storage equipment.
