Skype adds user presence feature on websites

Voice over IP company Skype has developed a user “presence” feature in its software, which companies can add to their web pages to enable users to see who is available to receive phone calls.

Voice over IP company Skype has developed a user “presence” feature in its  software, which companies can add to their web pages to enable users to see who is available to receive phone calls.

The feature, called SkypeWeb, has already been integrated into more than 50 websites, said Skype, which is owned by on-line auction site eBay.

The feature has been incorporates into Salesforce.com’s on-line customer relationship management software. Salesforce subscribers now have the option of using it to know when their contacts and colleagues are available to contact.

Other sites using the feature include UK social networking site Bebo, and the Lunarstorm UK/Swedish community site.
