Web metrics company Netcraft has added a graphical risk rating to its Internet Explorer anti-phishing toolbar.
The Netcraft Toolbar is a free-of-charge plug-in to Microsoft's internet Explorer browser, and links to Netcraft's database which logs website histories so that users can decide which sites they visit can be trusted.
The toolbar now has Risk Rating, a graphical indicator that appears for all new sites visited by the user.
The rating is worked out by comparing the new site against characteristics of known phishing sites recorded by Netcraft.
The rating means new phishing sites, not recorded by the Netcraft community security database, have a chance of being blocked before they do any damage to users’ machines.
By using the toolbar, users automatically contribute phishing site information to the Netcraft security database.
