A little egg on Egg's face
Egg, the Internet bank, was red-faced last week when its Web site crashed on the day it revealed preliminary results for 2001.
Egg customers were unable to access accounts on their Web site for about an hour last week following routine maintenance work. Customers were given phone access to their accounts while Egg was offline.
Meanwhile the company unveiled strong results for the year to 31 December, 2001, the first year in which it broke even. Operating income was up by 103% to £189.4m, due largely to new credit card business.
