Opportunities to exploit the explosive growth in xDSL, a channel strategy launch and a new business partner programme. Louise Boltman reports

3Com has launched its Chequebook programme to support reseller sales and to drive customer demand for affordable Gigabit Ethernet solutions. Using an official 3Com chequebook of discount coupons, end-users will be able to trade their old networking products (from almost any other vendor) for a reduction on the cost of a new 3Com equivalent at 3Com Focus channel partner outlets.

The Chequebook trade-up programme simplifies the process of exchanging products and enables resellers to increase their 3Com sales volumes. Starting in April 2001 it is expected to run until the end of May 2001. It incorporates offers on all 3Com products including SuperStack 3 switch products and the 3Com AirConnect Wireless LAN solution.

Jason Dance of Starwand Computers told Ch@nnel 2001: "The 3Com Chequebook programme is an excellent way for end-users to afford the solution they require, even if their budget is stretched.

"Trade-up is often overlooked as an option when the need to replace equipment arises, but due to the simplicity of this scheme we fully expect that sales of 3Com products will rise as a direct result."

Rick Perkins, 3Com european director of channel marketing added: "The programme reinforces our strategy of 'radical simplicity'. We want to make it as easy as possible for our channel partners to do business with us, and more profitably. We see the Gigabit Ethernet market as a real opportunity and have designed this programme to help drive customers to make the transition."
