Andrew Dowsett has joined the Press Association (PA) today as chief technology officer. He is the first senior IT leader to be appointed to the management team at the media group.
Dowsett recently worked as operations and technology director for Bauer Consumer Media. Prior to this he held senior IT roles at EMI and Virgin Media Group.
He will take responsibility for IT across PA, and will lead all activities from software development and internal IT to service delivery.
PA chief executive Clive Marshall said, "Andrew's depth of experience in both media and technology make him ideally suited for this wide-ranging role. I have no doubt he will be a great asset to the company."
Dowsett said, "My objective at the Press Association is simple - to deliver the best possible IT function to benefit both staff and customers alike."
The announcement follows the recent appointment of Paul Dale as CTO at ITV, also the first time the company had appointed a CTO to its board. ITV said it was trying to address the technology lag and was looking to "reshape its digital future."
