The average UK broadband speed has increased by 0.91Mbps to 5.106Mbps.
The rate was calculated from tests taken on the broadband.co.uk site during July 2010.
"Looking back to a year ago when the average speed was only 4.2Mbps, we can see how far things have improved." said Edd Dawson, editor at broadband.co.uk.
This follows a report from Ofcom, which found that the UK's average fixed-line residential broadband speed has increased by more than 25% in the past year.
However, the UK is still not catching up as fast as the rest of the world. According to research from software developer Akamai, the UK is the 27th fastest country for broadband speed, down from 23rd in the fourth quarter of 2009.
The report found that South Korea came top, with an average speed of 12Mbps, followed by Hong Kong on 9Mbps and Japan on 7.8Mbps.
