Which are the best IT agencies to deal with an IT technician with six years' experience including migration of desktops to different platforms, mass roll-outs using Norton's Ghost, IT procurement and administration?

I have also project-planned IT office moves and have experience of local area network design. I gained this experience in South Africa. I would like to start on a salary of £28,000 to £35,000.

Start by looking at online job boards. Selecting the best agency to find you the right opportunities will depend on the service you are looking for.

You need to look for a reputable agency with accreditations with the Recruitment and Employment Confederation or the Association of Technology Staffing Companies. All recruitment companies are regulated by the Employment Agencies Act, with more stringent legislation regarding data protection.

The market is very fragmented and more than one recruitment company will be able to help you. The market is shifting to become more candidate-led and therefore I would recommend looking at job boards such as Jobserve or on computerweekly.com.

When you see a role that looks interesting, call the agent before sending your CV. If they are prepared to talk to you and then meet you, you should be dealing with the right agency.

You should expect a salary towards the bottom end of your figures. Your experience in South Africa could be another benefit as clients are often keen to employ candidates who have experience of working abroad.
