Careerbuilder.com is a comprehensive and easy-to-use careers site. Although it is primarily aimed at a US audience, most of the material is still relevant to visitors from anywhere in the world, and there is the facility to search for UK-based vacancies.

There is a dedicated IT section called the Tech Lounge where ITers can post their CVs, get advice, get certification, read features, etc. In addition, the Web Guide section has links to other career information on the Internet.

The Getcertified section claims to offer 38 IT skills that visitors can acquire certificates in. These include C, Java and Unix. Brainbench, a Web-based skills testing and certification service, oversees this area.

As well as the workplace-centric features on the main site - such as how to survive a merger - there are IT-specific features in the Tech Lounge, ageism in the industry, for example. A feature written for women who work in a primarily male environment could be popular with outnumbered female IT professionals.

All in all, Careerbuilder.com is a useful and informative site for anyone who is looking for a new job or is just interested in what goes on around them at work.
