What does optimisation mean in the retail supply chain?

The Retail Optimisation Council (ROC) recently challenged retailers, suppliers, and vendors to optimise their common supply chain by integrating consumer demand. Optimisation systems let retailers focus on the most cost-effective integration of demand and supply chain.

The competitive advantage for today's retailers will be making cost-optimal decisions at every point of the demand and supply chain and using optimisation techniques to influence consumers. The optimisation applications for the demand chain all feed each other where price and promotion optimisation feed replenishment forecasts, which feed space planning optimisation and on to cost-optimised inventory.
