Avocent is buying LanDesk Software for $416m (£244m) to expand its management software offering to companies.

Avocent is a specialist in datacentre management products and LanDesk is an established provider of software to secure and manage desktops.

“This agreement will greatly increase LanDesk’s ability to execute its business strategy, preserve organisational identity, and become part of a well-capitalised enterprise with excellent prospects for accelerated growth,” said Joe Wang, chief executive officer of LanDesk.

“LanDesk will broaden our reach into additional platforms and layer added value on top of our connectivity solutions," said John Cooper, chief executive officer of Avocent. "The combined value of our solutions will help organisations analyse, update and automate the process of managing systems and devices.”

Once the deal is complete, both companies expect LanDesk to continue to operate from its existing facilities as an independent division of Avocent.
