Delegates at City IT heard that the time is ripe for banks to broaden their approach to interactive digital TV beyond simply replicating their web content

The content re-programming forced by BSkyB's switch to the WML software standard makes this the right time for a re-think, said Milan Sallaba of DiamondCluster International at City IT.

"The next six to 12 months will see the technology mature to allow provision of rich interactive media, so there is no excuse for banks to be complacent," he said. "The PC smells of the library, while TV smells of popcorn."

One conference delegate from a major UK bank said that with TV being about entertainment, the hardest challenge he faces is how to make banking fun.
