Queensland school recovers in real time

Ferny Grove High School in Queensland has adopted recovery solutions from StorageCraft, with impressive results.

Ferny Grove High School in Queensland has migrated to the latest in Real-Time Recovery solutions from StorageCraft. With over 1650 students and 150 staff, backup and disaster recovery has been problematic for the school.

Ken Capps, IT manager at the school said, "We have suffered the same issues and challenges as almost every other school or company in Australia, focusing on the backup process, when what is critical is the recovery process. There is only one reason anyone backs up data: that is to be able to restore it at some stage in the future. Traditional backup products focus on the backup process, not on recovery.

"At our annual Share IT conference, StorageCraft presented Real-Time Recovery and their ShadowProtect solution. At first I was reluctant to believe that you could rebuild a Windows server in a couple of minutes, but it was the fact of never losing more than 15 minutes of data or emails that really excited me. After testing ShadowProtect, I was exceptionally impressed by the functionality and ease of use of the solution and have since deployed it across all my Windows servers."

Capps said, "As a State school, our budgets are very limited and we have to watch every dollar. We migrated to ShadowProtect for less than the annual maintenance renewal on our existing backup product. Now that is value for money, especially when you consider that if we had renewed the maintenance on our existing backup product we would still have the same problems next year as we had this year!"

Capps recommends that all schools re-evaluate their backup product. "StorageCraft ShadowProtect is an outstanding solution and with local support, based in Australia, I would have no hesitation in recommending it to any school or organisation to solve their backup and disaster recovery problems."
