IT recruitment group, Computer People, and its sister company, The Span Consultancy, have merged in a bid to become the UK's leading provider of IT and e-commerce recruitment solutions.

The agencies, which both form part of the Delphi Group, will operate together under the Computer People

brand name through 34 branches across the UK and Europe. The addition of Span's e-recruitment expertise, which accounted for £39 million, or 50 per cent, of the agency's turnover last financial year, is expected to strengthen Computer People's overall position and boost its on-line IT recruitment presence.

Commenting on the integration, Computer People managing director, Peter Searle says the synergy between both companies is "phenomenal", and emphasises that the merger has not caused any conflict of business interests, as the agencies experience a "crossover of clients".

"This is a very exciting time for both companies and we are pleased to be working with the skilled professionals at Span," he adds. "By combining best practice under a single brand, we will be able to maximise the level of service available to our clients through an integrated, international delivery mechanism covering the whole of the UK and Europe."

While Span On-line (or e3span), the e-commerce recruitment arm of The Span Group, has also become part of Computer People, it will retain its separate identity and continue to focus entirely on the e-business sector, says Searle.
