Butler group analyst Darren Lightfoot looks into the effectiveness of SAP Portals within large businesses

The Enterprise Unification Portal is a browser-based business portal, which is one of three portal offerings by SAP Portals. It attempts to address the problem of accessibility of information and systems by bringing together several disparate applications and data sources under a common interface. This technology can actually achieve this goal through the use of its Presentation Layer and Unifier Technology, which can bring together applications to provide real workflow. However, the Enterprise Unification Portal only operates on Microsoft technology, which could limit its client-base in the future.

Any large enterprise-sized organisation that is looking to standardise the working environment of its employees would be able to realise true benefits in the use of this product. However, a close monitoring of the desired goals of any implementation of this nature, from the integration of workflow practices, to the realisation of the return on investment, is necessary to ensure success.
