Following the announcement of new machines and a revamped operating system, the AS/400 is now the leading machine for 24x7 availability according to one financial sector software company.

Fiserv CBS International, which was recently awarded ClusterProven status by IBM for its ICBS core banking product, believes the iSeries is now unsurpassed for reliability. The award is given for software which maintains high service levels and protects against unplanned downtime. Clustering uses mirroring technology to provide backup systems in the event of interruption to the main server.

Tim Organ, director of international product development and services at Fiserv, believes the AS/400 is now unsurpassed in reliability: 'One of the biggest drivers in the financial world today is reducing costs. IT is always a large overhead, and driving down the cost of ownership of your hardware and software is a huge competitive advantage. We have always been driven by our clients, and they want the whole 24x7 multi-channel environment, and they're looking for 24x365 availability, and the iSeries gives us that.'

Fiserv says it has now begun the process of certification for Advanced ClusterProven, the highest level of availability.
