Accenture and the Bright Ideas Trust charity have trained 160 young people with the skills to start up their own business through a series of ‘Your Light Bulb Moment’ events, which have focused on digital skills, such as social media and analytics.
Bright Ideas Trust offers training, mentoring and loan funding to youngsters who want to launch a startup.
This week, Accenture is hosting a ‘digital surgery’ in London where its digital experts will offer potential startups advice about how to use digital tools to grow a business.
Bernie Segal, managing director, Accenture Interactive UK & Ireland, said: “Through our recent work with Bright Ideas Trust, Accenture is looking to equip young people with the digital skills that are vital to the success of business today.”
Simon Eaves, a managing director at Accenture UK & Ireland, sponsor of the charity, added: “The digital surgery will equip young entrepreneurs with knowledge they can use to build their own businesses in an economy in which digital is becoming more important.”

Accenture is working with Bright Ideas Trust as part of its efforts to increase digital skills throughout the country via its Corporate Citizenship Initiative – Skills to Succeed. Accenture claims to have equipped more than 700,000 young people globally with the digital skills to obtain a job or build a business.
The need to improve the UK's digital skill levels was highlighted by a report from the House of Lords Digital Skills Committee recently.
The report, Make or break: The UK's digital future, says the next government urgently needs to resolve the skills gap, with the committee estimating that 35% of UK jobs will be at risk of automation over the next 20 years.
The report also suggests that the internet should be considered an important utility, accessible to all.
