Accountants need to be contactable at all times during recession because clients need advice when faced with decisions that could make or break them.
This is increasing the use of mobile computing equipment among the accounting fraternity.
According to research from Blackberry manufacturer Research in Motion (RIM) and the Institute of Charted Accountants (ICAEW), 75% of 566 senior accountants said the current economic climate has made it more important than ever that they canbe contactedwhen they are out of the office.
The research found that over 90% of accountants spendworking time out of the office each week, with35% out at least 11 hours a week.
They need mobile technology to enable them to access data and information on the move.
John Oates, partner in Baker Tilly's IT Advisory practice, said,"Clients rely on us to give advice that could make or break their business. In many instances, timeliness is critical, and I would not be able provide the service they need in this harsh economic climate if I were not able to communicate with them wherever I am during the working day."
