Google has released a desktop search solution to help business employees find data on the web, their hard drives and corporate networks more quickly.

The free system is modelled on the consumer edition of the product already available, but with added enterprise features.

The enterprise desktop search solution can be integrated with Google’s search appliances, and data accessed and stored by the desktop tool can be encrypted for added security. 

Microsoft launched its own free consumer desktop search solution this week, and said an enterprise version would be available in beta format by the end of the year.

The enterprise version of Microsoft’s desktop search tool will customisable by by user organisations.
