Two of the largest companies promising broadband Internet access across the UK have pulled out of the project amid growing criticism of UK's telecoms regulator Oftel.
Frustration over the unbundling of the local loop led Global Crossing and WorldCom to pull out of the process at the last minute, according to reports.
Neither company were part of a list of 35 companies to ask BT for access to local exchanges, nor did they request further details from Oftel on Tuesday.
BT's competitors claim that Oftel has not done enough to ensure BT does not drag its heals in the unbundling process. BT said that some local loop exchanges would not be available to competitors because of the need for essential infrastructure work.
