Insurance giant Aviva is using power management software to reduce energy spending and waste related to desktop use.

Supplier 1E is providing the system, which will be deployed across Aviva's UK estate of approximately 30,000 PCs.

Trials carried out with 1E's software on 856 PCs over a two-week period suggest the equivalent annual carbon emissions of 500 modern family cars could be avoided by using the system.

"We are only too aware of the challenges posed by climate change. Managing our impact on the environment is central to our Corporate Responsibility programme," said Christine Fraser, property and financial services director at Aviva.

"We are committed to addressing the issue of climate change and strive to eliminate waste and reduce energy usage. We saw [the new software] as the best fit for what we need to achieve," Fraser added.
