A wish to understand management and IT strategy issues has spread through to the technical IT community, judging from this year's annual conference of the UK Computer Measurement Group (UKCMG). Asset management and server consolidation were hot topics at the three-day conference in Thame.
The UKCMG represents the technical brains of the user and supply industries who pool their ideas on a regular basis.
UKCMG chairman Cathy Wright said sessions on the theories behind asset management were popular. There was also strong interest in capacity planning and overall asset measurement; IT strategy; and web security, particularly how to prevent denial of service attacks and web hacking, she said.
What is UKCMG?
The UKCMG is an independent, non-profit-making user group of IT professionals founded in the mid-1980s. Members include network engineers, programmers and consultants, capacity planners, systems managers, and strategic planners in user and supplier organisations.
For an annual subscription of £95, members get a free technical support helpline, opportunities to network at UKCMG events, white papers and conferences, discounted access to master classes, workshops and the annual conference, and free attendance at many regional group meetings. www.ukcmg.org.uk
