IT professionals have a strong sense of ethics, according to a survey of ethics in IT published last week by user organisation the Institute for the Management of Information Systems.

Ninety three per cent of the 188 responses from Imis members, analysed by Simon Rogerson of the Centre for Computing and Social Responsibility at de Montfort University, agreed that IT employees should abide by a code of professional ethics. Indeed, 75% said they would refuse to work on a project they considered to be unethical.

However, the survey, undertaken every two years, also generated speculation that younger members have less concern about ethics as they struggle to get their careers established.
