Leading wireless Lan hardware provider Linksys has developed a range of wireless products that are claimed to boost the data traffic performance of firms’ wireless Lan networks by around 35%.

The performance of wireless networks in terms of data transfer speeds can be affected by a range of issues, including the distance users are from access points, the volume of network traffic, the construction of the building, the operating system used, and whether a mixed network configuration of different wireless Lan protocols is used.

The Wireless-G products equipped with SpeedBooster include a router, a laptop PC card, and a PCI adapter, which all support both 802.11b and higher-speed 802.11g networks.

SpeedBooster on the Wireless-G products streamlines the communications between laptops and access points, and makes sure that those using the faster 802.11g standard are not slowed down by users equipped with the slower 802.11b standard.

Linksys, which is a division of Cisco, says that as well as increasing speeds on individual protocols, SpeedBooster can increase the overall performance of mixed networks by as much as 70% compared to others not equipped with the technology.

Wireless-G with SpeedBooster products also include a ‘Good Neighbour’ feature, which reduces interference between a user’s network and other networks that may be installed nearby.
